AC Schnitzer ACZ4 5.0d Fastest Diesel on the Sachsenring

The term diesel and roadster aren’t often used together, but tuner specialists at AC Schnitzer have changed that with their new one-off ACZ4 5.0d concept. The new sports car is based on the BMW Z4 sDrive 23i, and has been upgraded from the bottom up.

The AC Schnitzer ACZ4 5.0d comes with the is the 5.0-liter, turbodiesel V-8 engine found in the BMW M50d that offers a good balance of power and efficiency. The newly implemented engine has been boosted up to 430 horsepower and 619 lb-ft. of torque.  The standard manual gearbox has been replaced with an 8-speed automatic with pedal sports shift. A rear axle and limited-slip differential have been taken from the E92 BMW M3 and installed.

Packed with the tuned turbodiesel, the AC Schnitzer ACZ4 5.0d reaches 62 mph in 4.5 seconds from rest and surpassing 186 mph. According to “Auto Bild sportscars” it is also the fastest diesel to race on the Sachsenring with a 1:37.22 lap time.

The AC Schnitzer ACZ4 5.0d is a concept vehicle produced to customer specifications as a technology platform for AC Schnitzer product development. The car would cost € 113,965 but it is not for sale. Modifications to suspension, body, brakes, interiors and wheelset are part of the AC Schnitzer retail range for Z4 models.

AC Schnitzer has worked on reducing the weight for ACZ4 5.0d. The pound began to drop off when the electrohydraulic metal folding roof system was swapped with a lightweight CFC system that sheds 198 lbs. A further 25 kg was saved in the wheelset – based on the AC Schnitzer forged alloys Type VIII – with 9.5J x 19 inch rims shod with 265/30 R 19 tyres.

Although the drop in weight improves handling, but AC Schnitzer wanted to give the ACZ4 5.0d razor-sharp dynamics so they modified the entire suspension. A new racing suspension with fully adjustable compression and rebound has been added, which lowers the overall height by 30 mm.

Aerodynamics of ACZ4 5.0d have also got a great boost with carbon front spoiler, two carbon sports fenders, two bonnet vents, a two-piece rear spoiler and the carbon rear skirt insert. The interior completes a very special car with trim elements in orange, and carbon racing bucket seats embroidered with the ACZ4 5.0d logo. Aluminum pedals and foot rests, and floor mats complete the transformation.
